MUSIC MINISTRY

The Music Ministry at First United Methodist Church is all about bringing people together to glorify God through music—and yes, that includes you. Whether you’ve been making music your whole life or haven’t sung since middle school choir, there’s a place for you here.

We’re rooted in the traditions of the Church, but we also embrace creativity and new expressions of praise. From hymns and choir anthems to handbells and special music, everything we do is meant to support worship and help us connect more deeply with God and with each other.

Some of us read music, some learn by ear—and some just follow the person next to them and hope for the best. Whatever your background, what matters most is a willing heart and willingness to make a joyful noise!

No experience? No problem. You don’t have to be perfect—just present.

Come as you are, make a joyful noise, and we’ll figure it out together.

  • Chancel Choir

Wednesday Night - 6:30pm Choir Room

The Chancel Choir is at the heart of our worship life, offering music that proclaims the Gospel, deepens prayer, and invites the congregation into a fuller encounter with God. This ensemble is open to singers of all experience levels—whether you’ve sung for years or are simply willing to offer your voice in faith.

Our work together is rooted in both excellence and accessibility. We strive to prepare our music with care and intention, but always with the understanding that what we offer is not for performance, but for the glory of God. Through a wide range of sacred repertoire—from timeless choral works to meaningful hymn leadership—the choir leads worship each week and for special services throughout the year.

Above all, the Chancel Choir is a community: a place to grow musically, spiritually, and relationally. If you feel called to sing, there is a place for you here.

  • Handbell Choir

    Wednesday Night- 4:30pm FELLOWSHIP HALL

The Handbell Choir brings a unique and vibrant voice to our worship, offering music that is both visually engaging and spiritually enriching. Using a three-octave set of handbells, this ensemble adds color, depth, and joy to our services throughout the year.

No prior experience with handbells is required—just a willingness to learn, collaborate, and be part of something meaningful. Ringing bells is a team effort, and each member plays an essential role in creating something beautiful together.

Like all of our music ministry, the Handbell Choir is centered on worship first. We rehearse with purpose, support one another, and offer our music as an act of praise. Whether you’re musically experienced or trying something new, this is a wonderful way to get involved and make a tangible contribution to worship.

  • Collaborative Music

Music has a unique way of giving voice to prayer, and throughout the year, individuals within our congregation help lead worship through solo and small ensemble offerings. These moments of special music are not performances, but personal offerings—opportunities to reflect, proclaim, and deepen the worship experience for all.

We welcome vocalists and instrumentalists of all backgrounds who feel called to share their gifts in worship. Whether it is a solo anthem, an instrumental meditation, or a collaborative offering, each contribution is thoughtfully prepared and prayerfully offered.

Our goal is simple: to create space where individual gifts can be used meaningfully, always in service of the larger act of worship. If you have a musical gift and a desire to serve, we would be honored to help you find your place in the life of our music ministry.

  • Seaside serenades concert series

Seaside Serenades at First United Methodist Church of Isle of Palms is an ongoing seasonal concert series devoted to fostering the life of the arts within a sacred space. Through performances by local and regional artists, each program offers an opportunity to encounter beauty, reflection, and inspiration through music.

At the heart of this series is the belief that music is a vital expression of faith and community. Here, sacred and classical traditions meet the quiet beauty of our island setting, creating space to listen, reflect, and be renewed.

Join us as we celebrate the power of the arts to restore the spirit and strengthen the soul.
