Wesley April Update!
The year of discipleship, Bible study and Christian fellowship that is the Charleston Wesley Foundation is reaching its culmination. All campuses have gone on their requisite Spring Break away from campus and students are back buckling down for final exams and final papers. The Easter holidays are approaching, and March was a banner season for fundraising at the Charleston Wesley Foundation with multiple groups of students and staff members preaching at partner churches, presenting briefly about their Wesley Foundation experiences and even leading Sunday School classes at some campuses. Yet another fellowship and mission opportunity is upon us as students will be gathering at three different sites over the Easter weekend to help spruce up campuses for the close of Holy Week. All campuses will be represented at this event and the students look forward to the camaraderie and chance to give service in the name of our Lord. For those students who will not be traveling back home for Easter the Charleston Wesley Foundation has planned a potluck, family-style dinner at the Director Poole’s home for Easter Sunday. We look forward to using these opportunities as mission work and fellowship alike, and why not during this most holy season.
Each campus has its own unique culture and spiritual focus, and so we have begun themed Bible studies at each campus. At the Citadel on Monday nights the focus is on Practical Teachings for Spiritual Growth. At the College of Charleston that group which meets at the Student Space at Trinity UMC is studying “Who Am I?” A journey into discovering their Christian identity. At the Charleston Southern University, their themed Bible study is concluding a study on the book of Revelations. So, you can see that these students are engaging in truly impactful Bible study when they gather on their various nights. We are gradually making inroads at all campuses; since our last issue of updates, we have actually had a student from Trident Technical College to attend our Wednesday night meeting with the College of Charleston. Growth is happening at all of the campuses that we currently serve and we are beginning a push to table at New Student Orientation Days and campus tour days as the Spring semester draws to a close.
The Wesley Student Space at Trinity UMC is open again this semester on most Saturdays from 9am to 3pm and the attendance is steadily growing. On the odd occasion due to previously scheduled activities at Trinity UMC on the weekends we are having abrogated space hours. Always feel free to reach out if you want to sit in on a Bible study or a small group session. God bless you all for your faithfulness and generosity in supporting this ministry!
PRAYER FOCUS FOR THIS MONTH:
Please be in prayer for our students and staff as they enter what could be the final semester of their academic lives. Some students must make decisions on graduate school and venturing off into the work world. Prayer requests come in weekly for a myriad of needs and we ask that you support us in prayer for academic and family needs. Let us continue to pray collectively that our students will stay on course academically, become charged faithfully and committed to Christ. Pray for peace, wisdom, strength, and patience for our young charges.
