Wesley December Update!
We can hardly believe that December is already here! This semester has flown past us, and we have barely had any time to slow down and appreciate all God is doing in our students. While most churches are busy during the seasons of Advent and Christmas, we actually are a little slower since most students go home for a month break! That being said, we do have three exciting opportunities on the calendar!
We will venture out with all of our campuses to enjoy the James Island County Park Lights on 12/2 and then on 12/4, we will have our final meeting of the semester at The Citadel. This is our traditional Christmas Party where we celebrate with good food, good Advent worship, good ugly sweaters, good games, and finally, the greatest good, Communion. We look forward to these two wonderful fellowship opportunities before students go into Final Exams.
Wesley will also be sending a team of students, alumni, and staff up to Hinton Rural Center in North Carolina to participate in poverty ministry from 12/14-12/19. We are excited to give back in this important liturgical season, and our prayer is that we help others celebrate the season more comfortably through our efforts. This will include firewood distribution, some maintenance work at a local non-profit, and a handful of other opportunities to be the hands and feet of Christ. We cannot wait to see what God is going to do in the lives of our students from this service trip!
NEEDS FOR THIS MONTH:
We have averaged feeding 110 students every week this semester which is tremendous! One of the expenses that comes with this are drinks. We distribute at least 110 bottles of water, cans of soda, and sweet teas every week. If each drink cost Wesley $0.40, that means we are spending $44 a week on drinks (assuming they only grab one drink when often they grab a soda and a water). This means we’ve spent almost $700 on drinks this semester.
Looking at next semester, if we could get local churches and individuals to donate some drinks, that would help us tremendously in our costs! If you are willing to donate some drinks, reach out to John Poole to coordinate a time for him to pick them up (john@wesleychs.org or 864-205-6392). This simple need could help bless students in other avenues!
PRAYER FOCUS FOR THIS MONTH:
Please pray that every student navigates through Finals without anxiety and stress. Pray that they get home safely, get some much-needed rest, and that their break is lifegiving! Pray that each student feels the joy, hope, love, and peace of the Advent and Christmas seasons in their heart.
Please pray for the 12 students, 1 alumnus, and our director as they go on their Service Trip to North Carolina on 12/14-12/19. Pray for safe travels. Pray for safe work. Pray that God blesses others through their efforts.
